Doshisha University is recruiting Dormitory Assistants (DAs) to live in Keishiryo Dormitory while supporting its management and operations. In coordination with the Dormitory manager, DAs are responsible for maintaining safety and hygiene standards, providing student life advice, supporting RLP-related activities, and assisting residents with both academic and personal matters.
Qualifications and Requirements for DAs
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements to apply as a DA at Keishiryo Dormitory:
- Be a second-year undergraduate or above as of April of the following academic year, with at least one year of residency at the Dormitory.
- Be on track to graduate within the standard program length.
- Have a strong understanding of the concept of Keishiryo Dormitory and be motivated to contribute to its management and operations.
- Be able to serve as a core member of the resident community and support fellow residents’ academic and daily life as a role model and leader.
- Be able to fulfill DA duties through the end of the appointment term.
Number of DAs and Term of Appointment
- At Keishiryo Dormitory, the DA team consists of up to six members: three men and three women.
- The term of appointment is one year, from March 1 to the end of February.
Qualities and Attitudes Expected of DAs
1.Strong Sense of Responsibility
- DAs are expected to manage their academic work alongside their DA responsibilities, staying fully engaged in their studies while reliably carrying out their duties.
- They should be attentive to how shared spaces are used and maintained, and take appropriate, responsible action as needed to help preserve a comfortable living environment.
- DAs are also expected to support Dormitory operations in close coordination with the Dormitory manager and relevant university offices, and to communicate and report matters appropriately.
2.Strong Communication Skills
- DAs should be able to listen attentively, communicate their thoughts clearly, and engage in effective two-way communication, resolving misunderstandings constructively when they arise.
- They should be open to diverse perspectives and show genuine interest in other cultures, actively engaging with residents and providing support in daily life.
- DAs are also expected to communicate openly and fairly with all residents—including international students whose first language is not Japanese—as well as with fellow DAs, and to build relationships of trust without discrimination.
3.Availability to Commit Time to DA Activities
- DAs must be able to set aside sufficient time on a regular basis to engage with residents, attend meetings with the Dormitory manager and fellow DAs, and participate in Dormitory events.
DA Activities
- Daily Life Support for Residents
Supporting residents as they adjust to university life and life in the Dormitory. - Residential Life Guidance
Providing guidance on hygiene and daily living within the Dormitory, including proper use of shared spaces, cleaning and maintenance of appliances, and waste sorting, as well as managing and overseeing cleaning duties. - Coordination of Meetings
Holding meetings with the Student Support Center and the Dormitory manager, and conducting floor meetings with residents as needed. - Preparation and Submission of Monthly DA Activity Reports
- Move-In and Move-Out Support for Residents
Conducting orientations for new residents, including explanations of Dormitory rules and usage guidelines. - Planning and Hosting Social Events
Planning and running events to encourage interaction and engagement among residents. - Coordination of the Annual Disaster Preparedness Drill (Held in April)
Planning the annual disaster preparedness drill, making necessary preparations, overseeing operations on the day, and encouraging resident participation. - Information Sessions for Prospective Residents
Hosting briefing sessions for prospective residents and introducing the Dormitory at events such as Open Campus.
